Preventing Blisters

Updated: Oct 25

Starting a new school year is an exciting time filled with fresh opportunities and experiences. However, new school shoes can often bring an unwelcome companion: blisters. These painful, fluid-filled pockets can make walking and standing a misery. But fear not! With a few proactive steps, you can keep your feet blister-free and comfortable in your new shoes. Here’s how:

1. Choose the Right Shoes

Fit Matters

Ensure your shoes are fitted (a trained or qualified fitter is the best person for this) Shoes that are too tight can cause friction, while shoes that are too loose can lead to excessive movement, both of which can result in blisters.

Pay attention to both the length, depth and width of your feet. Different brands and styles fit differently, so trying on several pairs will help you find the best fit.

At ShuZu we have a fab team who are happy to help you find the perfect fit!

2. Break Them In Gradually

Short Wear Times

Start Slow, by wearing your new shoes for short periods, such as around the house. Gradually increase the time you wear them each day.

Apply moleskin or blister pads to areas of your feet that are prone to blisters. This can provide a protective layer and reduce friction.

3. Timing is key

Make shoe shopping a priority well before the start of school. This gives you ample time to get your feet used to structured shoes without the pressure of immediate daily wear. This can also highlight any issues that were not obvious at the time of fitting.

Try on new shoes at the end of the day when your feet are slightly swollen. This can help ensure a better fit.

Blisters don’t have to be a part of your new school year experience. By choosing the right shoes, breaking them in gradually and taking proactive measures to reduce friction, you can enjoy your new shoes without the pain. Remember, the key is to be patient and attentive to your feet’s needs. Here’s to a comfortable and blister-free school year!
